another utopian's home page
Hello and welcome !

I am Patrice Clement, a french guy currently living in UK and studying at Oxford Brookes University as a postgraduate student in MSc in Computer Science.

I am an UNIX-like OSes lover: I enjoy using Linux (particularly Gentoo), FreeBSD and NetBSD everyday. Free software is a good mean to change people's computer use, this my belief; have you ever thinked about a world where open-source and free software would have been discovered and would have become more generalized than any other existing proprietary solution from our time ? What utopia ! But still, things are moving, and they are changing; even Microsoft is changing, so, after all: why wouldn't it be possible ?

This summer, I spent my time implenting Portage, the default Gentoo package manager, on NetBSD; good times, as it was a Google Summer of Code 2009 project for the Gentoo Foundation. More information about it on following links: here, source code here, and proposal I've submited here. A final report on what I did to explain how to download and test my work has been posted on @gentoo-bsd mailing list. Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions related with this: I like getting feedbacks on my work (even the bad ones :D). Finally, additional screenshots are available throught this link as a proof of concept.

Want to know more about me ? My CV is here to meet your expectations: both a french and an english version of my resume are available.

I sometimes blog, I strive to be web 2.0 compliant !
